Maiwar Is Free
Finally!!
This afternoon Maiwar was delivered to the Peruvian Yacht Club. It has been 5 months since we parted ways in Brisbane, and I have been in Lima for the past four weeks awaiting her arrival. To say I’m feeling good is an understatement of the highest order, relief and gratitude abound! Life here in Peru is wonderfull. I’m one happy kid, and now with Maiwar here too, things are pretty darn sweet.
It was an interesting morning, I was involved in some diplomatic yet nervous negotiations to ensure Maiwar’s release; an experience that could only be quelled by two pisco sours. The invoice I received for Maiwar’s time in Peruvian Customs was much, much higher than expected - five figures. Needless to say the stress is not over yet.
As I walked back to my accommodation at the rowing club, my mindset shifted abruptly. “It’s time to row an ocean now Tom”. My holiday is over, work has begun. It’s a good thing, I like to work. Provisioning, antifouling, packing and preparing - I’ve got much to look forward to in the coming weeks.
I will describe at a later date the organisations here in Peru who have done the upmost to help me on this journey, however, I would now like to mention: Club Regatas Lima, Yacht Club Peruano and my friend, Gonzalo Ravago. All of whom have gone above and beyond to make this dream a reality.
The vast Pacific awaits, the good times have well and truly arrived!
